Largely influenced by the complexity and beauty of creation, I paint primarily with watermedia and pastels. By utilizing pattern and color as vehicles of movement and emotion, motifs of water, earth, sky, and flora are prominent in my work, with trees as my main subject matter. I often use pastels in combination with gouache, watercolor and acrylics to clothe my story. In telling that painted story, evoked feelings outweigh a need for detailed renditions of a subject.
My artistic interests began in my 20s with photography, continued in my 40s with landscape design, and in my 50s with painting. As I began to evolve as a self-taught artist, my work was influenced by the organic work of the 20th-century Canadian "Group of Seven." I continue to be inspired by their ethos and practice.
Now approaching 70, I work daily to strengthen my artistic voice and personal authenticity.
